How Much Cost Howrse Cards

The power of maps - Ute Schneider [ABC-Challenge ]

Ende Januar fesselte mich eine Lektüre der etwas anderen Art:
Auf dieses Buch bin ich danke meinem Prof. aufmerksam geworden. He gave me the hint for it and because I liked it so well, I've even bought my own. We saw so many beautiful pictures, I just could not say no. :)

The power of maps - Ute Schneider
A history of cartography from the Middle Ages to today

Content:
maps shape our world view and vice versa. What to tell the world view of the map maker and how the card art developed - from the history of salvation Mappa Mundi of the Middle Ages on the Roadmap, the topographic maps of the modern era to the present, of which this book reports on the basis of many impressive large-format maps.

"Anything but bungling, however, is Schneider's history of cartography. Historically accurate and detailed guides them through the history and problems of cartography from its beginnings to the present. (...) The power of Maps that places too close to this wonderful band, not least an aesthetic ... "Neue Zürcher Zeitung

Unfortunately, my new photo editor. Ihc would have liked a better photo shown .. (

find this book to find valuable information on maps and atlases, which represent its Technique and get instant and beautiful images, the important maps of the Middle Ages and later periods as a whole, as well as many details .

The book is divided into ten sections, and tells of maps as guidance, production techniques, its use in politics, but also of color techniques. Here, read this book is not dry but reported in an interesting way is something else about this "science".

This book definitely not just for people interested in history and Gepgraphie. On the contrary, I can well imagine that even young explorers would enjoy this book. Especially by the colorful pictures it looks very appealing and certainly can be read easily by an adult. Here are not necessarily all the chapters of the book appropriate for children, but it questions like "How did our world from the past?" or rather "How do people have vorgestellet before the world?" good answer. In this link the pictures, all marginal notes possess very good with the written text by Ute Schneider.

The author teaches in October 2007 Social and Economic History at the University of Duisburg-Essen and places of announces focus on social, gender, legal and cultural history of Europe in the 19th and 20 Century, history of science (cartographic visualization, cartography, geography since the early modern period), problems of modernity and its processes, and methodology of historical science.
A selection of her publications can be found on the homepage the University of Duisburg-Essen .

This book is for me a true treasure. The many images, it is also something to muffle reading, but also for anyone else who is happy with life on Earth and the views will certainly take it beschäftigt.Ich them more often in the hand and who knows .. one probably can later use it even once. :)
